Garden Cress – Common Garden Cress is a fast-growing leafy herb grown for its peppery leaves, commonly used in salads, sandwiches and garnishes. It offers tender, bright green shoots with a fresh, tangy flavour and reaches around 10–15cm at maturity. It is best grown in moist, well-drained soil in full sun or partial shade, with a typical cropping period of around 7–14 days from sowing.

Sow seeds indoors or outdoors all year round, as cress grows quickly and easily. Fill a tray, pot, or shallow container with moist seed compost or place seeds on damp kitchen paper or cotton wool. Scatter the seeds evenly over the surface without covering, as they need light to germinate. Keep the growing medium moist but not waterlogged. Place in a bright position, such as a windowsill. Seeds usually germinate within 2–3 days, and the shoots are ready to harvest in about 7–10 days once they reach a few centimetres tall.
