Common Coriander is an annual herb grown for its fresh, aromatic leaves and seeds, widely used in cooking and seasoning. It offers delicate, bright green foliage with a distinctive, citrusy flavour and reaches around 30–60 cm at maturity. It is best grown in well-drained soil in a full sun position or lightly shaded spot, with a typical cropping period of 40–70 days from sowing for leaf harvest, and slightly longer if harvesting seeds.

Sow coriander seeds directly outdoors from spring to autumn, once the risk of frost has passed. Choose a well-drained, fertile spot in full sun or partial shade. Sprinkle the seeds lightly over the soil, then cover with a thin layer of soil or compost and water gently. These seeds can also be sown directly into pots filled with multi-purpose compost. Seeds typically take 7–14 days to germinate, depending on the temperature. Coriander grows quickly, and you can begin harvesting the leaves when plants are 10–15cm tall, cutting outer foliage to allow new growth. If left to flower, coriander will produce seeds in late summer, which can be collected once the seed heads turn brown and dry. Regular sowings every few weeks provide a continuous supply of fresh leaves throughout the season.
