Common Pot Marjoram is a herb grown for its aromatic leaves, perfect for flavouring soups, sauces, and salads. It offers small, soft green leaves with a mild, sweet flavour and reaches around 30–40 cm at maturity. It is best grown in well-drained soil in a full sun or lightly sheltered position, with a typical cropping period of 60–90 days from sowing for leaf harvest.

Sow pot marjoram seeds indoors from March to April in a seed tray or small pots filled with light, well-drained seed compost. Scatter the seeds thinly on the surface and press them gently into the compost without covering, as they need light to germinate. Keep the compost moist but not waterlogged and place in a warm, bright position, ideally around 15–20°C. They can also be sown directly outside in a sunny, well drained spot from April to May. Germination usually takes 7–14 days, this can extend to 14-21 days under slightly cooler conditions. Once seedlings are large enough to handle, prick them out into individual pots and grow on in a bright, sheltered spot.
