  • Silene schafta is a compact, hardy perennial that adds vibrant late-season colour to rockeries, borders and alpine gardens. This mat-forming, semi-evergreen plant features narrow, lance-shaped leaves and produces clusters of magenta-pink, five-petalled flowers from late summer into autumn. Its neat, spreading habit makes it an excellent choice for ground cover, filling gaps or softening edges in well-drained soils.

The Silene schafta in our range are Irish grown, and therefore have adapted to the temperate Irish climate. Thriving in both full sun and partial shade, Silene schafta prefers moderately fertile, well-drained soils with a neutral to alkaline pH. Once established, it is drought-tolerant and generally pest-free, though it may be prone to powdery mildew in humid conditions.

We recommend pairing Silene schafta with other late-season bloomers such as asters, sedums or ornamental grasses. Its bold colour contrasts beautifully with autumn tones, while its evergreen foliage ensures year-round interest. A reliable, low-maintenance perennial that enhances any garden setting.
